Serial No. 001 completed its first flight at Centennial Airport, marking a major milestone for Bye Aerospace and our vision for the future of electric flight training.

“The first flight of eFlyer 2 exceeded all of our expectations in terms of aerodynamics, handling, propulsion and overall performance—and there were no maintenance discrepancies during the flight,” said Rod Zastrow, CEO of Bye Aerospace. “This program is an important step in demonstrating that electric aircraft can deliver disruptive operational cost advantages while maintaining the performance, safety, and handling qualities required for real world training environments. Today’s flight of eFlyer 2 is an exciting milestone for our team, our partners, and the future of electric aviation by helping reduce the oftentimes prohibitive costs of flight training.”

The eFlyer 2’s successful first flight represents the next generation of pilot training aircraft. This breakthrough will allow flight training organizations, air taxi operators, and private owners to break free from high and uncertain fossil fuel prices, and crippling engine overhaul backlogs. The eFlyer 2 platform will help flight schools and training operators improve fleet utilization, expand access to flight training, and reduce overall barriers to pilot development at a time of growing global demand for pilots and aviators.

Flown by Chief Test Pilot Elliot Seguin, the eFlyer 2 completed its planned flight test profile from Centennial Airport near Denver, Colorado. The flight enabled the team to perform an initial evaluation of the aircraft’s handling qualities, aerodynamic characteristics, and system performance, while collecting data to support the next phase of flight testing.

“First flights are always significant moments for any new aircraft program. This team has worked hard and they will remember this achievement for a long time,” said Seguin. “The eFlyer 2 handled well during the flight and validated the work the engineering team has put into designing and testing the aircraft over the past several years. It’s exciting to help advance a platform designed specifically for the future of pilot training.”

eFlyer 2 integrates technologies from leading global aerospace and advanced manufacturing suppliers including Safran Electrical and Power, magniX, Siemens, Toray, Composite Approach, Garmin, Sensenich Propeller, Electro.Aero, Flying S, M4 Engineering, ACME Aero, and Risse Racing. Bye’s supplier team reflects the broad industry collaboration and multidisciplinary expertise required to develop and certify the next generation of all-electric aircraft. Bye Aerospace prioritizes the most capable partners and proven technologies, keeping development rigor and safety at the center of the program.

The Bye team will gradually expand the flight envelope to verify aircraft safety and gather performance characteristics that will ultimately support the predictable and safe handling qualities needed by student pilots.
