ALEXANDRIA, VA, UNITED STATES, October 29, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Alexandria, Virginia – October 28, 2026 – The American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (AAFCS) is pleased to announce the launch of the Apparel, Textile, and Design (ATD) Juried Exemplary Student Showcase. This new program is an exciting initiative designed to recognize outstanding student achievement while creating new opportunities for K–12 educators.

Launching as part of the 2027 AAFCS Annual Conference, the ATD Juried Exemplary Student Showcase invites educators working with students in grades 8–12 to submit exceptional student-created designs for consideration in a national juried exhibition. The program celebrates emerging designers who demonstrate creativity, craftsmanship, innovation, and technical expertise in apparel, textiles, accessories, and interior design.

The new showcase expands the reach of the AAFCS Annual Conference by providing a dedicated opportunity for educators to share the work taking place in middle and high school classrooms. Through this initiative, AAFCS seeks to elevate student achievement and strengthen connections between classroom instruction, professional practice, and future career pathways.

“We are thrilled to introduce the ATD Juried Exemplary Student Showcase as a new opportunity to recognize the extraordinary creativity and talent being developed in our K–12 classrooms,” said Karin Athanas, Executive Director of AAFCS. “This program represents an important step in creating a meaningful pathway for K–12 educators to contribute to our national conference, share the innovative work happening in their classrooms, and receive recognition for the impact they have on the next generation of designers and industry professionals. By celebrating both student achievement and educator mentorship, we are strengthening the connection between education and professional practice while inspiring students to envision their future in Family and Consumer Sciences.”

The ATD Juried Exemplary Student Showcase will feature original student work in three design categories:
• Apparel Design: Original garments and complete apparel designs demonstrating creativity, construction skills, and functional design.
• Textile-Based Design and Accessories: Innovative textile creations and accessories, including scarves, jewelry, hats, and other textile-based products.
• Interior Design and Fiber Arts: Creative designs for interior spaces, including fiber art, wall art, home furnishings, and decorative accessories.

Educators who are AAFCS members or nonmembers are eligible to submit student work. Each educator may submit up to five student entries, which will undergo a double-blind review by jurors with expertise in apparel, textiles, and design. Selected designs will be exhibited at the 2027 AAFCS Annual Conference, where they will receive additional evaluation and consideration for showcase awards.

To encourage participation and expand access to this new opportunity, AAFCS has waived the showcase submission fees. Educators whose submissions are accepted will be required to register for and attend the Annual Conference to present their students’ designs.

The introduction of the ATD Juried Exemplary Student Showcase reflects AAFCS’s continued commitment to advancing Family and Consumer Sciences education, recognizing excellence across the profession, and creating opportunities for educators and students to engage with a broader professional community.
